UAE Visa Cancellation Process

If you want to go back to your home country and never come back to UAE again, you must officially cancel your residence visa in UAE. The procedure for the residence visa cancellation in UAE is straight forward, with your sponsor taking care of all the work. You should be cautious and check a couple of things to guarantee the process is smooth. Pay off if you got any debts, sell your vehicle, and cancel your tenancy contract as well as utility bills before starting the process for your visa cancellation in UAE. One cannot request for a visa cancellation process on his/her own. Only the individual/organization who has sponsored him/her for the residence visa can cancel his/her residence visa in UAE. But if one has an investor visa, he/she can start the process on his/her own.

How the company can apply for the cancellation of a residence visa in UAE?

If one has been sponsored by a company, at that point it should initially apply for the cancellation of the labor card and agreement at the Ministry of Labor (now called as Ministry of human resources and Emiratisation). The person whose residence visa is going to been canceled his/her signature is compulsory on the application. 

If the company wants to cancel the work permit too. Therefore, it cannot be possible without a letter signed by the person stating that he/she has received all his/her dues, repatriation expenses, gratuity, and other benefits that the person and the company have agreed upon.

When the organization has applied for the cancellation of these documents, he/she will receive a clearance statement which will help him/her in a generating a request for visa cancellation.

Visa cancellation process in UAE

There are two different ways to apply for the visa cancellation process in the UAE. You can visit and register at the GDRFA (General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs) typing center or you can process online.

Visit a registered typing center in UAE

Visit any typing center in UAE which is registered with GDRFA (General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs) to start your visa cancellation process.

Documents Required to process the visa cancellation
  • Sponsor’s passport copy
  • Sponsor’s visa copy
  • Clearance Statement
  • Your Emirates ID original
  • Your Passport original
Inform the GDFRA GDRFA (General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs) Branch about all your requirements

Inform the management at the GDFRA GDRFA (General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs) branch that you need to cancel your residence visa. Canceling your visa will also require cancellation for your dependents if they are on your sponsorship.

Pay the visa cancellation fee

You must pay AED 110 for visa cancellation for your dependents and your sponsor will pay this fee for you.

Get the application

Get the application form from the officers at GDRFA (General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs). Once you get the application form, you and your sponsor must sign it.

Visit GDRFA 

Once you and your sponsor have signed the application for cancellation, visit the GDRFA (General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs) head office along with the required documents with you.

Return the Emirates ID

You will need to return your Emirates ID card while your passport will be stamped and given back to you. 

Note: In case, if you are not available to complete the whole process for your visa cancellation, your sponsor will request for visa cancellation process in UAE on your behalf.
